Esty Dee (Esty Erhard in the Japanese version) is a recurring support character in the Arland trilogy series. She first appeared in Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland as a supporting character, and later became a playable character in Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland. She also appears in Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World and Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Liberator of Polar Night.

Esty is first introduced in Atelier Rorona as the hard working Adventurer's Guild receptionist. She is a very kind and helpful person who aids Rorona in her journey by giving her requests which will boost her reputation with the city. She is friends with Sterk and seems to be quite loyal to the king.

As the series progresses, Esty becomes increasingly unhappy about her loss of youth and lack of a husband. During the events of Atelier Totori, Filly has taken over Esty's job and now works as the receptionist. Filly explains that her older sister was concerned about getting too old to find a husband, and so she is supposedly out in search of a man and is not seen in the game.

In Atelier Meruru, she has seemingly given up her search for a husband, and is focusing on her career. She seems somewhat resigned to having chosen a career over marriage, but is clearly unhappy about it. When she drinks, Esty often reminisces about her age. She watches closely over her sister Filly and worries about her sister's lack of skill with people. When she learns about the Potion of Youth, she is very determined to have some.

Role[]

Atelier Rorona[]

Esty is happily working at the Adventurer's Guild in Arland. She gives Rorona requests, which will help her population grow, as well as giving her rewards, tickets and cole.

She is not a playable character and does not have her own game ending in the original Atelier Rorona. In Atelier Rorona Plus, Esty is available as a playable party member. When she goes gathering ingredients together with Rorona, her clothing changes. She wields two short swords as her weapons.[1]

Atelier Meruru[]

Esty disappeared during the events of Atelier Totori, but arrives in Arls with Gio during the first year of the game, after completing the first task at Hart Outpost and upgrading it once. Her role has changed significantly, taking up espionage as a job, as well as being the bodyguard of Gio.

She is now also a playable character who can be recruited from Artisan's Way in Arls. Befriending Esty is needed when unlocking her game ending as well as Hanna's ending.

Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists[]

Esty appears as a resident of Westwald after the Arland alchemists join the cast. She can be assigned to operate a store.

Battle[]

Esty is playable in Atelier Rorona Plus and Atelier Meruru. In both games, she share fighting style, weapons and even abilities.

Atelier Rorona Plus[]

While a NPC in the original, in Atelier Rorona Plus she becomes a party member as early as the fourth assignment, when her second request (defeating 10 Green Puni) has been completed. She joins at level 25, equipped with Twin Blades and Cloth Skirt.

Esty excells at the speed stat, something that her Trickster passive ability confirms. If her speed is further increased, she's able to get several turns before the enemy can act.

It's also worth noting that, unlike the other characters, her basic attacks affect a small area of enemies.

Skills[]

All of Esty's skills are physical attacks that apply some sort of debuff to the enemy.

Trivia[]

  • Esty's localized name can be read as STD (sexually transmitted disease) which is most likely a localization joke made by NIS America to comment on her issues with finding a husband.
  • In the manual for the Atelier Arland DX collection she was renamed Etsy Airhart, which is closer to her Japanese name. This appears to be a translation error as she still appears as "Esty Dee" in the games themselves and the following Atelier release Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists still retains her original English name.
