Ingrid is a character appearing in all three games in the Salburg series: Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg, Atelier Elie: The Alchemist of Salburg 2 and Atelier Lilie: The Alchemist of Salburg 3, as well as the remake version of Atelier Marie: Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg.

She also appears in side games Atelier Marie, Elie & Anis: Message on the Gentle Breeze, Marie & Elie: Two People's Atelier and Hermina and Culus: Atelier Lilie Another Story.

Ingrid is one of the teacher's at Salburg's Academy, and has been involved with the instituition ever since its very founding. She is originally from Kenntnis, thus she has heterochromia.

Ingrid is strict and can be terrifying when angry, but cares deeply about her students and is ready to give even the most troublesome ones the help and support they need. She is a diligent researcher, and is ready to dedicate her entire life to science. She has no interest in getting married or starting a family.

She is the best student of Drnie (and Lilie, depending on player choice), which is a point of conflict between her and Hermina. Although the two grew up and were raised together, they have always seen each other as bitter rivals.

Role[]

Atelier Marie[]

Ingrid is an instructor at the Salburg Academy working under Headmaster Drnie, who she is close acquaintances with. Through years of experience, Ingrid has grown to become a talented alchemist who passes her knowledge on to her students.

She is the professor assigned to Marie, who is known to be the worst student in the entire academy. Frustrated with Marie's inability to grasp the concepts of alchemy, Ingrid decides to try an alternate teaching method.

Ingrid's decision is that Marie will have five years to create an item that meets her satisfaction. Marie will be evaluated by Ingrid in five years time. If Marie passes Ingrid's test, than she will be allowed to graduate.

As Marie improves, Ingrid will give her the library card, which allows Marie to enter the library at the academy. Reading books at the library increases Marie's intelligence rating, which allows her to make more items.[3] When Schia falls gravely ill, Ingrid is the one to inform Marie of her friend's condition.[4]

Atelier Elie[]

Ingrid is still teaching at the Salburg Academy, six years after the events of Atelier Marie. She is now teaching Elie and Nordis. She gives Elie Marie's old workshop, with the same intentions that she had for Marie. Although Elie is not initially the brightest student (though she certainly shows more promise than Marie ever did), Ingrid gives her four years to show improvement so that she may graduate, and should Elie's early results be good enough, she allows Elie to remain two years longer for "Meister"-level study.

One of Ingrid's long time acquaintances Hermina has returned to the academy, after she has been gone for six years. Hermina and Ingrid have been rivals since childhood, and Hermina is now challenging Ingrid's teaching abilities.

Hermina is the teacher assigned to Eisel Weimar, who is showing great promise in her studies in compraison to Elie. Despite this, Ingrid still holds high hopes for Elie.

Atelier Lilie[]

Ingrid is considered to be a child prodigy. She has been studying alchemy since the age of eight, and shows remarkable progress for a girl that is only ten years old. She was born and raised in El Bador, and studies at the renowned Kent Academy.

Ingrid is studying with Hermina, another child prodigy who is the same age. Although the two were practically raised together, they see each other as rivals and do not get along. The two can rarely agree on anything and argue often. The rivalry is life long, and the two are still bitter towards one another in Atelier Elie: The Alchemist of Salburg 2 after they've both aged nearly 30 years.

Ingrid leaves El Bador with Drnie, Hermina and Lilie to travel to the country of Salburg on the mainland. Drnie and Lilie hope to build an alchemy academy in Salburg, and Drnie has enlisted the help of Ingrid and Hermina's genius to assist Lilie; Drnie also hopes to use the academy-building mission as an opportunity to further Ingrid and Hermina's educataion.

The three young alchemists will work together in Lilie's small workshop to make her dream come true. Ingrid is a major supporting character throughout the game, and can be chosen as Lilie's "primary" assistant (the other option being Hermina); other games and side materials make it clear that Ingrid was canonically chosen for this role. Ingrid becomes very attached to Lilie, and the two form a very close relationship. Ingrid thinks of Lilie as a motherly figure, as Ingrid never had parents.

Atelier Marie, Elie & Anis[]

A new library is going to be built in Salburg. Ingrid enlists the help of her former students Elie and Marie to write new alchemy books for the library.[5] When Anis Ryftchen comes to Salburg, Ingrid and Drnie supervise and mentor her at the Salburg Academy, allowing her to write alchemy books for her native country.

Ingrid still keeps a watchful eye on Marie and Elie, despite them having graduated already. Likewise, the two still fear Ingrid's wrath. She encourages Anis stay at the workshop, believing that it will provide good life experience for her. Still, a part of her is also worried that Marie and Elie's shenanigans are going to become a bad influence on Anis.

At the end of the game, Drnie will retire. Depending on your actions, either Ingrid or Hermina will take over Drnie's role as headmaster at the academy.[6] If you write more books for Ingrid, she will become headmaster. Likewise, if you write more books for Hermina, she will become the headmaster instead.
